This game was (and still is) a blast to play with company. I do believe that it is not a gateway game to our vast world of modern board games, but it is a great "bait" game to dangle in front of your fellow Marvel friends, so they are more likely to want to discover our world.
The expansions and hero packs are optional but I strongly believe that they add more variety and possibilities for deck building. And who doesn't want to fight villains as their favourite superhero?
Deck building is without a doubt the central mechanic of this game, and that it is why it is not accessible right away to fledglings. The starting composition for decks are beginner-friendly, sure, but are at no point exploiting the heroes' abilities to the fullest.
If you have Marvel friends or deck building enthusiats, this game should definitely be in your strong considerations. I must say though: there should only be one central person who owns the core game, expansions and hero packs, while the others come to play and deck build.
Table talk should always be encouraged during the whole game by veterans, so the game doesn't become stagnant for players waiting their turn.
Overall, it was always a great experience for veterans and newbies alike.
