Once, Saruman the White led the Council of the Wise and was the titular head of the White Council, but then he looked jealously into the Palantír of Orthanc and allowed himself to be enthralled by the power of the Dark Lord. Thus, he embarked on a path that would cost him his noble nature and turn him into a caricature of a true Istari. After his defection, he used his considerable intellect to create an army capable of rivaling that of the Dark Lord himself. Exactly what Saruman ultimately sought to achieve through his betrayal remains a mystery, but there is no doubt that he used his magical abilities against his former friend Gandalf the Grey and condemned tens of thousands to death by fire and sword in a single stroke when he unleashed his legions upon Rohan.

Gríma is a man of Rohan who sold himself to Saruman for the promise of wealth and power. In a despicable manner, he wormed his way into the service of King Théoden, where he could do the most damage. When Rohan most urgently needed a heroic leader, Gríma's advice was nothing but words of despair. Thus, a promising lord lost the will to act and sat idle and indifferent on his throne while the Westfold burned. Gríma is no warrior; instead, his strength lies in twisting the words and thoughts of those around him and talking even the wise out of their heroism.

Saruman the White and Gríma Wormtongue offer a highly effective combination of sorcery and corrupting influence on the battlefield, ideal for complementing the raw brutality of the Uruk-hai they lead.

The set contains four plastic miniatures – Saruman on foot and mounted, Gríma Wormtongue, and a Palantír on a pedestal. The models are supplied with one Citadel 40mm Round Base and three Citadel 25mm Round Bases. Their rules can be found in Armies of The Lord of the Rings™.
